Your perfect skin care routine on a long haul flight
There are perks to long trips: you can read a good book, watch that movie you’ve been meaning to watch for hours or even catch up on sleep. A big downside to flying? The effect it has your skin. Extremely dry air in the airplane cabin can strip moisture from your skin and leave it feeling dry, irritated and prone to breakouts. However you don’t need to arrive at your destination with your skin looking less than flawless. With a few easy steps, your skin can remain supple and hydrated even on the longest of flights.
Step #1 Prepare Your Beauty Arsenal
The most important step in keeping your skin healthy on a long-distance flight is to pack a bag with the right products. You will need to remove makeup from your skin so pack cleansing wipes or micellar water. Also make sure to pack a hydrating moisturizer and lip balm as well. Before you travel make sure you put all items in a clear bag and make sure none of the products exceeds 3.4 ounces (100 ml), so that you can breeze through security.
Step #2 Cleanse Skin
Cleanse your skin with either the cleansing wipes or micellar water until you’ve removed all traces of makeup.
Step #3 Apply a Sleeping Mark
Sleeping masks deeply hydrate making them perfect for the dry air common on flights. Use Garnier SkinActive’s Miracle Sleeping Cream to nourish and restore your skin. It hydrates and also has the ability to diminish the appearance of fine lines and to rejuvenate your skin. You will walk off rested-looking and fresh-faced.
Step #4 Add a little mist
A great way to make sure you are adding moisture to your skin even if there is barely any moisture in the air is by alternating misting your skin with facial mist or water spray and then re-applying moisturizer. Do this every two hours on your flight.
Step #5 Keep Lips Moisturize
Don’t forget to apply – and reapply – a nourishing lip balm to keep the thin skin on your lips hydrated throughout the flight!
Step #6 Hydrate From Within
Make sure to drink as much water as possible on the plane so that you and your skin stay hydrated. You may want to plan to drink more than usual as the airplane is significantly drier than normal conditions. Hydration from within is just as important as hydration through beauty products. Buy a big water bottle after clearing security and commit to finishing it by the time you get to your destination. If you’re flying more than 8 hours, buy two bottles!
