How to change up moisturizers from day to night
Moisturizer is an extremely important component of any skin care routine. Your skin needs to be nourished and protected on a daily basis no matter what your skin type. Our skin can have different needs in the day and at night so you may want to have two different products to use. Find out why below.
1. Consistency
In the morning you want to keep your skin care efforts quick and easy, so you’re more likely to opt for a light and quick-absorbent formula to moisturize your skin. This allows for quick hydration that won’t feel heavy on your skin throughout the day. At night you may want to opt for a thicker moisturizer as this can help give back moisture to your skin that you might have lost during the day. You also have more time to allow your skin to absorb nourishing products. It’s the perfect time to apply a nighttime moisturizer as your skin can work overnight to strengthen your barrier function.
2. SPF
A crucial difference between most daytime and nighttime moisturizers is SPF. You should apply SPF every morning before you leave your home to ensure your skin is protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays. At night since you won’t be exposed to the sun, you can skip the SPF.
3. Coverage
Certain daytime moisturizers are formulated with pigment and concealing properties to help your skin look better. BB cream is a good example of that. Garnier SkinActive’s 5-in-1 Miracle Perfector BB Cream can help your skin look more even-toned, polished and can help hide blemishes. At night you don’t want to use products with pigmentation since you want your skin to breathe and of course there’s no need to cover or conceal while you are asleep.
4. Antioxidants
Antioxidants are great to use on skin but you may use different ones at different times. Retinol for example has lightly exfoliating qualities and can make your skin slightly more sensitive to the sun. That’s why it’s an antioxidant better used at night. Green tea has soothing properties so this makes it a good antioxidant to use when you are letting your skin rest at night. Antioxidants such as Vitamin C and wild berry are energizing which makes them great to use in the morning for a radiant complexion throughout the day. Overall antioxidants are great for your skin and can help fight free radical damage. You should try using antioxidants during the day, at night or during both times to help your skin stay youthful longer and to help fight early signs of aging.
