How to own your short hair
Short hair has come to stand for independence, fearlessness and amazing style. If you have it, you know that you don't need length to create a standout look. A handful of products can help you style one great cut in many ways, satisfying your creativity and allowing you to suit your look to how you feel on any given day.
The Undercut
Typically involving an asymmetrical part and super-short, shaved sides, the undercut is an edgy look that radiates a sense of freedom and authority. It's a definite head-turner, and you can style it with a touch of rebellion (with spikes formed by strong-hold paste and held in place with a light spray) or with elegance and simplicity (by slicking it back with medium-hold gel to frame your face).
If your hair is a little longer but you still want to get the undercut look, weave one side back into a tiny French braid and pin it near the nape of your neck.
The Pixie
Pixies are amazing at framing your face and highlighting your eyes, jawline and cheekbones. It's easy to make this classic, short look match your personality with a little styling know-how.
If you have a square or round face and may need more height at the top, try the popular pixie look. Distribute medium-hold paste or gel evenly through slightly damp hair, then add texturizing cream and tease out more height with fingertips. For a more subtle look that's well suited to straight hair, use a paddle brush to pull hair flat against your head as you blow dry, and finish with a light spritz of texturizing spray.
The Bettie Bob
This short bob is inspired by iconic pin-ups, and is also known as the pageboy haircut. While it's easiest to style on straight hair, it can also work with curly or wavy textures.
The trademark pageboy involves thick, all-one-length bangs that end above the eyebrow, drawing attention to the eyes and creating a literal frame for the face. If you have curly or wavy hair, you may need to use a large curling iron and a brush to make your bangs lie flat — or you can skip the bangs altogether.
Gel, spray and a comb can do wonders for making your pageboy lie flat, but if you want to tease it out a little bit to create more volume or an illusion of thicker hair, try a texturizing spray on dry hair.
